Rubio Comments On Scheduling Of Parliamentary Elections In Venezuela

Washington, D.C. U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL), chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee’s Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere, Transnational Crime, Civilian Security, Democracy, Human Rights and Global Women’s Issues, issued the following statement regarding yesterday’s announcement that Venezuela would hold parliamentary elections on December 6:
 
“I’m glad the Venezuelan regime has responded to Leopoldo Lopez’s demand that parliamentary elections be scheduled, but now two things need to happen: he and all of Venezuela’s political prisoners must be released, and the December 6 election must be a free and fair one, not the sham elections that have marked the Chavez-Maduro era.”
