Rubio Comments On The Passing Of Florida GOP Leader Tom Slade

Oct 21, 2014 | Press Releases

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) issued the following statement today regarding the passing of Tom Slade, former state legislator and Chairman of the Republican Party of Florida:

“Tom Slade laid the cornerstone of what became the modern Republican Party in Florida. Under his leadership, Florida witnessed a Republican resurgence that gave opportunities for a new generation of Republican leaders, including me, to help lead this state in a new direction.

“Republicans owe Tom a debt of gratitude for helping lead our party out of Florida’s political wilderness and into a position of effectuating real change. It is because of him that critical reforms to our state’s economy and education system became possible and have improved the lives of millions of Floridians.

“Tom Slade was a man who loved his party, but he loved his state even more. My prayers are with his family during this time, along with my hope that they find some comfort in knowing Tom lived a full life in the arena and that his victories there made a difference in the history of our state.”
