Rubio Honors Fallen Borinqueneer
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) today paid tribute to MSGT Francisco Clemente Torregrosa, a veteran of the U.S. Army’s 65th Infantry Regiment, known as the “Borinqueneers”, who is being buried today in Puerto Rico after passing away at his daughter’s home in Orlando, Florida last week at the age of 97. He served our country in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War.
“Francisco Torregrosa was born into modest circumstances in 1918, but over the next 97 years of his life, he would go on to do extraordinary things, especially as a member of the Borinqueneers,” said Rubio. “It is with a heavy heart that we lay to rest another Borinqueneer without receiving his well-deserved and long overdue Congressional Gold Medal which is expected to be unveiled sometime in the spring of this year.
“During his final years living in Florida, I was proud to represent Francisco Torregrosa and was honored to meet him in 2014 and get a chance to personally thank him for his service,” added Rubio. “As he is laid to rest in his birthplace of Puerto Rico, my wife Jeanette and I are thinking of and praying for Francisco and his family.”
