Rubio Introduces Bill Promoting Family-centered Childcare

Jul 24, 2024 | Press Releases

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Biden-Harris Administration’s Build Back Better agenda created a “one-size-fits-all” childcare “solution” that pushes both parents to work full-time and place their children in a third-party childcare facility. This misguided policy ignores the needs and wants of many families.

In response, U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) introduced the Respect Parents’ Childcare Choices Act to better align federal childcare initiatives with the childcare preferences of American families.

  • “Under the guise of COVID-19 relief, the Democrats sought to mandate a one-size-fits-all childcare agenda that fails to reflect the diverse needs of American families. The Respect Parents’ Childcare Choices Act would give families the flexibility and support they need to make the best decisions for their childcare.” – Senator Rubio

This legislation is endorsed by Heritage Action, American Principles Project, American Compass, and Independent Women’s Forum.

Specifically, this legislation would:

  • Reform the Child Care and Development Block Grant system, the largest federal initiative focused solely on supporting childcare, to:
    • Support families who raise their children at home;
    • Eliminate marriage penalties;
    • Empower relative caregivers;
    • Create and implement a 100% voucher system;
    • Protect faith-based daycares; and
    • Increase annual authorized funding.
