Rubio Introduces Legislation To Combat Palestinian And UN Support For Terrorism

Jul 31, 2014 | Press Releases

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) today introduced the Palestinian and United Nations Anti-Terrorism Act of 2014, which combats terrorism by promoting reform in the Palestinian Authority (PA) and the United Nations.

“The United Nations has turned a blind eye to Hamas’ use of its facilities to terrorize Israel,” said Rubio. “But the targeting of innocent Israelis by Hamas and other terrorist groups cannot be denied, and it cannot be ignored – not by the United Nations, and certainly not by America.

“So long as the Palestinian Authority refuses to dissolve its current government with Hamas, and the United Nations continues to allow its facilities to be used to conduct terrorism, U.S. assistance to these entities needs to reflect our concerns about their behavior,” added Rubio.

A PDF of the legislation is available here.

The Palestinian and United Nations Anti-Terrorism Act of 2014 would:

  • Restrict U.S. assistance to the Palestinian Authority, United Nations Human Rights Council, and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East until they cease collaborating with Hamas, a designated terrorist organization, and promoting an anti-Israel agenda.
  • Seek a negotiated settlement of this conflict only under the condition that Hamas and affiliated groups are required to entirely disarm.
  • Continue to provide security assistance to the Government of Israel to assist its efforts to defend its territory and people from rockets, missiles, and threats by applying funds withheld from the PA and United Nations to Israeli security assistance programs.
