English/ Español: Rubio, Menendez Introduce Resolution Commemorating the 60th Anniversary of the Bay of Pigs Invasion
Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senators Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Bob Menendez (D-NJ) introduced a bipartisan resolution paying tribute to the brave members of Assault Brigade 2506. Sixty years ago, these courageous men fought to defend their beloved homeland from the Castro regime’s authoritarian grip. The resolution highlights the importance of continuing “to support policies that promote the respect for democratic principles, civil liberties, freedom, and justice in Cuba, in a manner consistent with the aspirations of the Cuban people.”

“As the son of Cuban exiles, I am proud to introduce this resolution honoring the valor of the Brigade 2506 veterans,” Rubio said. “These men, who risked their lives in the hopes of liberating Cuba from tyranny, deserve our recognition and gratitude for their tireless defense of democracy. Sixty years after these patriots took up arms on the beaches of Playa Girón, we honor the Brigaders both living and deceased.”
“With this bipartisan resolution, we remember the Cuban people’s 60-year struggle to break free from the yoke of dictatorship, and we honor the 1,400 members of Assault Brigade 2506 members who put their lives on the line trying to restore democracy, freedom, human rights, and justice in their homeland,” Menendez said. “As the son of Cuban exiles, I will continue to use the strength of my voice and power of my office to ensure the Cuban people’s struggles have not been in vain, and that their aspirations continue to serve as a guiding light for United States policy toward Havana.”
Rubio is the Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere, Transnational Crime, Civilian Security, Democracy, Human Rights, and Global Women’s Issues.
Menendez is the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations.

Washington, D.C. — Los senadores estadounidenses Marco Rubio (R-FL) y Bob Menendez (D-NJ) presentaron una resolución bipartidista que rinde homenaje a los valientes miembros de la Brigada de Asalto 2506. Hace sesenta años, estos valientes hombres lucharon para defender su amada patria del poder autoritario de los Castro. La resolución destaca la importancia de continuar “apoyando políticas que promuevan el respeto a los principios democráticos, las libertades civiles, la libertad y la justicia en Cuba, de manera consistente con las aspiraciones del pueblo cubano”.

“Como hijo de exiliados cubanos, me enorgullece el presentar esta resolución en honor a la valentía de los veteranos de la Brigada 2506”, Rubio dijo. “Estos hombres, que arriesgaron sus vidas con la esperanza de liberar a Cuba de la tiranía, merecen nuestro reconocimiento y gratitud por su incansable defensa de la democracia. “Con esta resolución bipartidista, conmemoramos la lucha de más de 60 años del pueblo cubano por liberarse del yugo de la dictadura, y honramos a los 1.400 integrantes de la Brigada de Asalto 2506 que arriesgaron sus vidas con el solo propósito de restaurar la democracia, la libertad, los derechos humanos y justicia en su patria ”, Menéndez dijo. “Como hijo de exiliados cubanos, continuaré usando la fuerza de mi voz y el poder de mi oficina para que la lucha del pueblo cubano no haya sido en vano y que sus aspiraciones continúen sirviendo como una estrella guía para la política de Estados Unidos hacia La Habana”.
Rubio es el Miembro de Más Alto Rango del Subcomité sobre Hemisferio Occidental, Crimen Transnacional, Seguridad Civil, Democracia, Derechos Humanos y Asuntos Globales de la Mujer.
Menéndez es el Presidente del Comité de Relaciones Exteriores.
