Rubio on China Weaponizing Its Graphite Monopoly
U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) released a statement in response to China’s weaponization of its graphite monopoly.
- “Communist China produces most of the world’s graphite, which is a key component in everything from batteries to missiles. China is threatening to withhold access to this resource, just as it has with gallium and germanium, elements used to make computer chips. The restriction on graphite is just the latest example of how Beijing weaponizes supply chains to threaten America and our allies. We need to end our dependence on China for critical minerals by building mines and processing facilities here in America and with partners and allies.
- “Beijing’s latest move should serve as a warning to every American, but especially U.S. business leaders, that China is our adversary. If we rely on China to make things, then it will restrict access to more resources in the future, and we will find ourselves at the mercy of a hostile power. That’s the last place we want to be in an increasingly dangerous world.”
Flashback … In June 2023, Senator Rubio warned U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Chair Gary Gensler that a rapid Electric Vehicle transition would ultimately leave Americans more dependent on China for resources.
