Rubio Supports Senate Action Forcing Backpage.Com To Own Up To Its Role In Human Trafficking
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) issued the following statement regarding his vote today supporting S. Res. 377, the Backpage Civil Contempt Resolution:
“For years, I have been advocating for Backpage.com to shut down its adult entertainment section that facilitates sex trafficking, and today I was proud to support a Senate effort to investigate this online advertising practice that puts women and girls in danger of being exploited over the internet. I’m glad this resolution forces Backpage.com to own up to its terrible practices by ensuring its CEO will face a subpoena regarding its website’s nefarious actions. “
Since 2012, Rubio has joined Senate colleagues in multiple efforts calling on Backpage.com, to eliminate its “adult entertainment” section, which has served as little more than a front for human trafficking.
