Rubio Welcomes Announcement Of Immigration Hearing To Be Held By Commerce Committee

Apr 30, 2013 | Press Releases

Washington, D.C. – The Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation today announced it will hold a hearing next week on S. 744, the “Border Security, Economic Opportunity and Immigration Modernization Act of 2013.” U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) issued the following statement applauding the announcement:

“Today’s announcement to hold another hearing examining the immigration reform bill is very encouraging because it adds more transparency and scrutiny to this process. It is especially important that we continue to thoroughly discuss the economic impact of the immigration legislation in order to help improve upon the current bill and ensure we have a modernized legal immigration system that leads to a stronger economy with more job opportunities for Americans.

“Conservative economists have estimated that immigration reform will generate trillions in new economic growth and create jobs that will benefit American workers. But this is only a starting point. It is important that we use this hearing and every other avenue to address the broken immigration system we have today to move towards a strong, effective system that will secure the border, encourage job creation for Americans, and ensure America remains a dynamic global economic leader.”
