Rubio Welcomes Fifth-Third Bank’s Reversal on Halting Donations to Florida’s School Voucher Program
Miami, FL — U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) welcomed Fifth Third Bank’s announcement that it would reverse its decision to halt donations to Florida’s school voucher program. Last week, Rubio criticized Fifth Third Bank and Wells Fargo for announcing that they would halt donations to the program.
“I am glad to see Fifth-Third Bank putting students and their families above destructive identity politics,” Rubio said. “It shows people can raise their voice and overcome the insane ‘woke’ agenda that drives our politics and culture. School vouchers provide opportunities for low income and special needs students, and I am proud of all the Floridians that stood up for these children.”
Rubio has long been a supporter of school choice and on the first day of the 116th Congress, he reintroduced the Educational Opportunities Act, which creates a federal tax credit for donations towards scholarships for low-income students towards their K-12 education at the school of their choosing. Senator Rubio’s bill is modeled after Florida’s highly successful school choice scholarship program, which he advocated for during his time in the Florida legislature. When Senator Rubio first introduced the Educational Opportunities Act, the bill received widespread praise from the education community.
