Rubio Welcomes State Department’s 2020 International Religious Freedom Report

May 12, 2021 | Press Releases

Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) issued the following statement regarding the release of the U.S. State Department’s 2020 International Religious Freedom Report. Last week, Rubio received an A+ rating from the 21Wilberforce’s International Religious Freedom (IRF) Congressional Scorecard for his continued defense and promotion of religious freedom worldwide.

“The State Department’s annual International Religious Freedom Report shines a bright light on attacks against the right to live out one’s faith or belief according to one’s conscience. It is a poignant reminder that the U.S. government must do all it can to defend this fundamental human right. During the Trump Administration, the State Department took meaningful action in defense of religious freedom, including the determination that the Chinese Government and the Chinese Communist Party are committing crimes against humanity and genocide against Uyghurs and other Muslims. Our nation must continue to lead and advance policies that defend individuals who are persecuted simply for peacefully living out their faith.”

Rubio is a member of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations and the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on the State Department, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs.
